It’s not something you see every day at the office.
“They come in kind of thinking it’s a work out or stretches,” said Alexis Agnew, a local yoga instructor. “It ends up being so much more.”
But once a week, Alexis Agnew leads a yoga class of employees at KNB Communications in Stamford.
“Between the postures and the breath work, there’s like a yoga prescription for really anything that somebody’s dealing with,” said Agnew.
After a long day, it can be the best medicine.
“Taking the hour out of the day to really relax and just clear our minds is really really helpful,” said Brittny Quinn, account executive at KNB.
Agnew knows exactly how effective yoga can be after a day at the office, because she used to work in one. But she discovered yoga is her true passion in life.
“There was a lot going on in my own life,” said Agnew, “That was when I got really deep into my practice and it just helped me so much in my personal life that I wanted to share it naturally.”
Now she teaches at studios in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. And has inspired a healthy end to the work day at KNB.
“We get into these habits where we’re kind of always forward folding and you hear people all the time saying they have tight hips and low back pain,” said Agnew, “And a lot of that is just because how much we sit down.”
Agnew says it also helps alleviate stress.
“Learning how to manage stress and breathe and just having some techniques and tools to turn to,” said Agnew.
Tools, she believes, can help you live each day better than the one before.
“[It] changes all parts of their lives,” said Agnew, “And that’s my favorite part.”
