Finally someone has come up with a practical approach to dealing with stress in the workplace; yoga and meditation techniques. I’m not trying to come over all hippie here but there’s something to be said for taking a calming breath.
A recent study published in Journal of Occupational Health Psychology showed that participants who undertook a 12 week programme in either viniyoga or mindfulness meditation, exhibited significantly lower feelings of stress than they had before. The positive effects didn’t stop there these people also showed reduced difficulties in sleeping, less dramatic physiological reactions towards stress and improved feelings of general wellbeing.
The best thing is that these improvements were seen with just an hour a week time investment – providing a bite sized practical solution to a huge workplace problem costing UK businesses millions of work days a year.
