The Washington Business Journal named Lockton’s Washington D.C. office the Healthiest Employer in its size category, companies with 1,500 to 4,999 employees.
Lockton’s Michal Gnatek, who oversees the office wellness program, attributes the success to the high-energy work environment.
“Part of it is the demographics,” Gnatek said. “We have a lot of young, Type-A personalities. We’ve learned to channel that sometimes unhealthy personality disorder into a high-energy office.”
Working as an employee benefits broker, the employees also try to practice what they preach to their clients. Lockton D.C. Associates stay healthy by hiking the Appalachian Trail, practicing yoga daily, exercising in the on-site gym, and holding walking meetings. Gnatek, who underwent open-heart surgery to repair a faulty mitral valve in November 2008, often commutes into work on his bike – 40 miles one way.
The Washington Business Journal partnered with Healthiest Employer LLC, an Indianapolis data research company, to measure the region’s top healthiest employers based on tabulated results from a lengthy survey.
