I often get inquiries from event producers and coordinators about providing yoga on-site at their corporate events. Sometimes just a simple retreat is planned; other times it’s a multi-day affair.
For an instructor, these events can be really fun as they offer a chance to teach the general population. It’s also an opportunity to consider what made yoga so compelling to you, and to impart that onto your beginner students. The most important thing to remember is that you are most likely teaching the general population so your content should be as accessible as possible.
The next time you’re planning an event that includes corporate yoga, consider the following questions to help vet out potential instructors:
1) Can the instructor teach to the general population or, more importantly, your population? i.e. do they have experience teaching beginners?
2) Does s/he have liability insurance? Yoga teachers who spend the bulk of their time teaching privates or events should have a liability policy.
3) Does s/he have her own equipment? Most yoga instructors have mats and props for a couple of students but not more.
4) If the classes are very large i.e. more than 50 attendees, does the instructor know other qualified instructors who can be brought on if needed?
5) Are they willing to travel if necessary?
