Ask anyone with a regular yoga practice and they’ll tell you: Yoga makes you better at life.
Here are 8 benefits that explain how everything practiced on a mat is practice for life off the mat and in the office:
1.) Self-awareness increases.
The more we practice, the more we discover about our own body – the places it’s tight, the places it’s open and places we never even noticed before. Awareness enables us to gain more control physically, which leads directly to deeper control mentally and emotionally. This translates to acting and reacting authentically in the office
2.) Practice provides unique perspectives.
Certain yoga postures force us to look at things from a different angle, literally. When we flip our body upside down, the world as we see it turns upside down too. After years of experience, most of us struggle to see our work in new ways. A yoga practice inspires us to expand beyond just one, limited, viewpoint.
3.) You can find your balance during change.
We practice changing the position of our body a lot in yoga. Sometimes this change causes us to lose balance for a moment, but we learn to find grounding again quickly. When we get reassigned to a new project or promoted to a new role, we can access the same inner stability we found on the mat and taking deep, even breaths.
4.) You’re not phased by the external noise.
In yoga, we sit quietly, turning inward to find stillness inside ourselves. Once we experience peace coming from within, we know we can always access it anytime, anywhere…no matter how many requests are coming from different directions and devices.
5.) Intentions become stronger.
Setting intentions are a big part of the yoga practice. Before we even move on the mat, we call to mind an intention, or purpose / reason for being there. When we’re crystal clear on what we’re doing, why we’re doing it and who we’re doing it for, distractions won’t keep us from reaching our goals.
6.) You can relate with your team members.
Yoga allows us to take other forms, even if only for a few breaths. Whether we become a grounded like tree, poised like an eagle, or fierce like a warrior, a deeper understanding of others begins to cultivate.
7.) New postures mean more possibilities.
The first time we step onto a mat, we’ll bet our life that touching toes or doing a headstand will never, ever happen… and then it does. This helps us realize what else we might be capable of that we always thought impossible.
8.) Practice is all you need.
Some days are easier than others, but no matter what, we show up to our mat and do our best.  Dedication and consistency keep us progressing, whether it’s a new posture or a new title. Put in the effort and grace takes care of the rest.
