When I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few years back, the number one most empowering thing I discovered that allowed me to overcome the so-called incurable disease was: I am in total control of my life.
Leading up to my diagnosis I had unknowingly created a disease-state in my body, and then through the methods I shared with you recently, I reversed the disease and gained a level of health and wellbeing most only dream of. Because so many of us do dream of feeling happy and healthy, I am honored to share with you five more life-enhancing tips for achieving your goals and living the life of your dreams.
1. To Accomplish Something New, You Must First Expect It of Yourself
Do you think you would set out to swim to a buoy in the ocean and back if you didn’t expect to return to shore again? Would you jump out of a plane if you didn’t expect your parachute to open and safely place you on the ground? When it comes to your dreams, so too must you expect the outcome you desire… or you will probably never take action. This doesn’t mean you have to know every detail of every step of the way; you just have to believe in yourself and your resourcefulness.
In the above examples, you don’t have to understand the laws of buoyancy or how a parachute works, but you do need to have an expectation that you will reach your destination. This is no different with regards to your dreams. You don’t have to know the details of every step of the journey to accomplish something new; you only need to expect it of yourself.
2. Understand Resistance
Resistance is any thought in direct opposition to what you desire. Resistance is any thought you have that indicates “I can’t” or “it’s too hard” or “I am unable,” etc. The more life-changing and inspiring our dreams are, the more real our resistance may feel.
In the book, The Law of Attraction, Abraham-Hicks has a superb analogy for how your thoughts can create a higher degree of resistance when you are chasing your dreams than when you are still in the early stages of clarifying your dreams:
“If you were driving your vehicle at 100 miles per hour and you hit a tree, you would experience a very big crash. However, if you were to hit the same tree while your vehicle was traveling at just five miles per hour, the outcome would be considerably different. See the speed of your vehicle like the power of your desire. In other words, the more you want something, or the longer you have been focusing upon your desire, the faster the Energy moves. The tree, in our analogy, represents the resistance, or the contradictory thoughts, that may be present.”
Resistance never takes the form of a physical obstacle in your path; resistance is always all in your head no matter how real the obstacle in your path seems to be. Whether you overcome the challenge or you succumb to your resistance is totally dependent on how you think.
3. Observe Your Thoughts
This goes hand-in-hand with the last tip. Often, our thoughts go off on a tangent on their own, and without intending to, we might find ourselves in a dark and dingy corner of our imagination. Learn to observe your thoughts and catch them early if they are belittling your potential. You become what you think about, so keep your thoughts in an uplifting and loving state. Especially be on the lookout for damaging thoughts when you haven’t had sufficient sleep or you are around negatively focused people. At these times, it is easy to accidently drop your guard and let negative thoughts creep in.
If you are struggling to halt negative thoughts and refocus on something uplifting, a trick that works for me is to correct my posture and take a few deep breaths. It is virtually impossible to have negative thoughts while maintaining positive, confident and strong body language.
4. You Are a Spiritual Being Having a Physical Experience
This is a term thrown around a lot, and how you interpret the meaning is neither wrong nor right, but I would like to share an observation I have had.
There are people who believe they are physical beings, period. If it can be touched, seen, tasted, heard or smelled, it is real. There is no apparent spiritual influence in the lives of people with this view of the world.
Then there are those who discovered their spirituality and spend their life trying to be spiritual, giving little credit to the physical world around them, sometimes referring to it as an illusion.
The way I interpret the statement is that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience – so have a physical experience. One day we will pass from these bodies and become 100 percent Spirit again, but until then, enjoy experiencing being physical. Don’t ignore the spiritual part of you, but rather embrace the physical and the non-physical. Align with the Divine part of who you truly are to create the physical life of your dreams, and then experience it.
5. You Don’t Get What You Want, You Get What You Are
As explained earlier, before you achieve something, you must first expect it of yourself. This means that if you want something, but you don’t really expect it, it probably won’t happen for you. To take this concept a little further, you don’t so much get what you expect; you get what you are. If you are a happy, fun-loving person, life will bring you happy, fun-loving experiences. If you have an abundance mentality, life around you will provide you with more than enough. On the flip side, however, if you have underlying beliefs that the world is a hate-filled, violent, depressing place and there isn’t enough to go around, then this will be what you expect, and this will be your experience. Can you see how who you are creates your expectations of the world around you?
For example, many people who battle with their weight experience just that: a battle with their weight. Sometimes these people want to lose weight; then they come across THE DIET for them, and they consciously expect the diet will work — and it does… but only for a while. This is because the person that they are subconsciously “battles with their weight” and feels deprived by their diet and enjoys their old eating regime. Who they are subconsciously is not aligned with their conscious expectation, and so before long, the battle with their weight reignites.
Is life not going the way you want it to? Despite your conscious desire to make improvements, are you finding it difficult to change your old patterns? Determine who you are subconsciously, and begin re-training your subconscious to be who you consciously wish to be. There are many ways of doing this; Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnosis are two fantastic methods that I have come across that assist with changing limiting patterns from your past. Find yourself an experienced therapist who practices either of these methods if you feel you may need a hand with reprogramming your subconscious.
If you would like to get started right now, begin by talking to your subconscious with love whenever you feel yourself act or react in a way you feel no longer serves you. Acknowledge your subconscious for protecting you and keeping you safe up until now, but let it know — with love not resistance — that you wish to do things differently from now on.
